Foederati.

I don't exactly remember who they were anymore... I think Germanics who fought for Rome... but never shall I read this word and not go, "OMG! Dr. Ferris!" like a demented fangirl. The fact that I am fangirling a Dr. of history who is the amiable modern day incarnation of either Bilbo Baggins or Gandalf... well, at least I'm not alone in my happy adoration. The man IS a walking history encyclopedia. I am in awe of his superior powers of historical dissertation.
His classes are insanely, nail-bitingly difficult due to his sadistic antiquated testing practices, and yet I still learned more of the Middle Ages than even I thought was possible. So much so that I am now getting confused in Western Civ because it skips so much of the intricate story imprinted into my mind.
The fact that my Western Civ teacher does not wish me to know the exact order of events leading up to the disintegration of the Carolingian Empire, the rise of Hugh Capet, the order of the last 14 Roman Emperors or the kings of France and England for a 200-year span... he doesn't want to know about the three kingdoms and the wars between Charlemagne's sons.
It's distressing. LOL.
