Lazy Sunday is lazy

  • Jul. 12th, 2009 at 5:16 PM
Palookaville is on tv; remember when Vincent Gallo seemed like a promising indie actor with a strangely attractive face, and not a pretentious egocentric who's way too in love with his penis and looks like there isn't a free slot for "showering" in his schedule? Yeah.

I wonder why, after weeks of deafening creative silence, the moment I decide to hurry up and something with my assignments, my mind starts producing ideas (of course none of them work related) that I'm dying to work on. Oh, and there's the [info]asoiaf_exchange assignment too! *facepalms*

I want to days to be, huh, 50 hours long or something. Except that I'd still waste most of them.

She said goodbye to The Hills but Lauren Conrad is still a fan favorite: Her debut novel, L.A. Candy, has topped the New York Times Best Seller list two weeks in a row.

"If someone said to me five years ago when this all started that I would one day make the New York Times Best Seller list I wouldn't have believed it," Conrad tells PEOPLE exclusively. "I am so honored that it is now a reality."

The novel, loosely based on Conrad's own life, follows of Jane Roberts, a 19-year-old girl who moves to Hollywood and ends up as the star of her own reality show.

Although Conrad is used to the spotlight, she's still in awe over her literary accomplishment, "It was such a compliment to be included in something with such established names."

L.A. Candy, which hit shelves June 16, is the first in a three-book deal for the reality TV star.

What is this belt-pouch thingy?

  • Jul. 12th, 2009 at 11:05 AM

I'm making garb based on this illustration titled The Annunciation to the Shepherds:

Its from a French book of hours from the late 15th century. The dress and headgear are easy. I'm sorta stumped about the wrap-around-the-waist pouches, though. In the illustration above, it looks like a belt on the woman, however, it's not. Here are the front views of other people in the same illustration:

In the illustration below, it's a back view, you can see that each of these shepherds has one and it's some kind of pouch. Or sleeping roll? Though it doens't look bulky enough for that.

I've never seen any construction given for these in any garb class I've taken or read about. Has anyone worked with these? Can you tell me anything about them? Barring that, does anyone just want to give an opinion?

Thanks!

Jon Gosselin Ensures That Ed Hardy Will Forever Be Known As The Axe Body Spray Of Clothing

Note to the mods: These articles have more info than the one yesterday about him and his gf in St. Tropez. This one confirms that that he's an actual spokesperson for the brand and that he's specifically meeting with Ed Hardy's creative director to get his girlfriend a clothing line. Seriously.

I am not a fashionable person. I have worn the same black t-shirt, jeans, and sneakers outfit since 1995. But I think I'm still qualified to declare that Ed Hardy gear has become the Axe body spray of clothing.

Watch out Joe Jackson! Someone's getting ready to take your title for douchiest father of the year! )

OP Note: Oh, I often think back to that blissful time a year ago before I'd heard of Ed Hardy. I remember some girls in my Fashion Merchandising class were trying to describe it to me and my response was, "LOL, this can't be a real thing, can it?" How wrong I was.

It's curtains for Miami Ink, but its stars shine on

Both the Miami Ink store and the TV show it inspired are gone now, but the stars are planning a new show.

Miami Beach has lost one of its top tourist attractions: the Miami Ink tattoo parlor.
Granted, the tattoo shop created for the popular TLC reality show closed last year at 1344 Washington Ave. when the star artists, Ami James and Chris Nuñez, moved to a new studio up the block, Love & Hate Tattoos.

Madonna sings forbidden "Frozen"

  • Jul. 12th, 2009 at 10:54 AM
Madonna performed last night in Belgium. Nothing exciting right? After being late for about an hour and the rain, it wasn’t very easy to get the 70 000 people crowd going. The British DJ Paul Oakenfold tried to get the crowd going but with little luck.

But the question is: Did she sing “Frozen”? It was supposingly on her tracklist but she isn’t allowed to sing that song in Belgium. In 2005 a judge decided that the Queen of pop had committed plagiarism and he forbid her to sing the song in Belgium.

The Belgian composer Salvatore Acquaviva went to court after he thought “Frozen” resembled too much to his 70s song “Ma vie fout le camp”.

If Madonna sang “Frozen” she can get a fine.

And I can tell you, she did sang "Frozen" before ending the concert.

This Is A Jonas Brothers Round-Up Post

A round-up of all things Jonas. Could've done separate posts but thought this was the sensible thing to do.
But first, a warm HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Mama Jonas!!!

Checking in!

  • Jul. 12th, 2009 at 7:54 AM
I had drifted around with odd days checking in. I suppose I should land on one... 'cause I seem to have lost track and my last roll call post was on the 4th.

My consultation yesterday showed me down another 1.6 pounds. But the danger zone has been building all week. My brother left on Monday morning. My work place was in total disarray for a couple of days, and I started hitting that predicted emotional wall, as my son was off in training, my daughter in law is contemplating a run at college, and there are just so many uncertainties and emotions about those uncertainties rolling about.

Long and little of it has been a reluctance to get up and exercise... the good news is I've done it anyway. Yesterday it culminated in a mini-binge. I say mini because it could have been a whole lot worse, but it wasn't.

This morning, I'm heading off to work for a bit. Adjusting, one day at a time... to the changes in life... that are harder to take as the years pass.

...or maybe to trade in the body for a newer model. Ye Olde Weekly Weigh in this morning and at first the scale said 177.5 which I was "Meh" about since that just put me back to where I was before the girly water weight retention of DOOM and didn't take into account the efforts. But since I also got an error message the first time, I moved the scale to a different position, thinking that maybe it didn't like its place on the tiles and stepped again and got 176.5 which would make me happy that an extra pound went bye bye but I'm also now skeptical of its accuracy.

I moved the scale again and weighed two more times and got 176.5 both times so I suppose I'll stick with that which makes it four pounds since the start of  things 5 weeks ago. I'd be more pleased, but I'm making such an effort that I keep thinking that there's something in my system that is resisting loss.

I've not really lost any weight from the waist or hips so it must be coming off the legs? Crud, this happened before and I looked for the longest time like a Blow Pop.

I didn't find the Reebok EasyTones in my size so I invested in a $50 pair of good-feeling Nike walking shoes that I'll break in right after I post. This week, I'm also looking into joining a gym for a couple of months (until the school year is back and the University has better gym hours). Hopefully stirring up the system with some different exercises will produce more desired results.

EDIT: Welllll, so much for the shiny new shoes. Walked up and down one hill and now have band aids on the backs of my heels - they'll be going back to the store. Bummer

first post..~!

  • Jul. 12th, 2009 at 2:58 PM
hello everybody~! i'm one of those people that joined this community via spotlight..but i decided to wait till all the stream of introduction slows down a little to post..^__^

so yeah, i stand at 5ft5inches and weight about 186lbs currently.
i've stalked this community for about 2weeks or so and decided to start living and eating healthily from now on!

i've a got a question. i've been living of white rice from the very start of my existence. but i've been reading and hearing people said that u'll drop off the weight faster if you don't eat rice. i want to be within 145-150lbs in a span of 7 months. and to keep it at there.

today and yesterday i ate these:
breakfast: four slices of whole wheat bread + sardine spread + lettuces + tomatoes + cucumbers
lunch: the same as breakfast since i'm lazy but only two slices of whole wheat bread.
dinner: one mug of oat with skim milk.
snack: one carrot

so, my question..is these healthy?

and i've been jogging for 30 minutes today.and yesterday. since my schedule is super pack for the new semester, i only manage to squeeze one hour of exercise during the weekends.

one more question, i'm the type of person that doesnt defecate often..even when i'm eating all those whole wheat food, i just dont feel like going to the toilet. maybe there's something wrong with my metabolism because i had onced tried a crash diet where i starve myself. and lose 15lbs in a month. anybody have any suggestions on what to eat or do?

thanks..!i love this community!

Going down with the herps!

  • Jul. 12th, 2009 at 3:11 AM

Hey all!
So about a month ago my boyfriend got a cold sore and I avoided it like the plague. No kissing and no mouth where it should belong!
Though now I'm thinking back and realizing he performed oral on me the day before the outbreak.
Question is, would there be any possiblity of exposure? I am planning on getting tested soon but I wanted to get your guys opinion.

Thanks in advance!
