I still love you so damn much. Even if you would totally stalk me and rip my throat out and stuff, it might be worth it. I'm just saying. Plus if you could grow up, you'd be Jack Bauer but with more psychosis. I'm not sure why I got attatched to him out of all the Lost Boys, but probably it's cause he's the unapologetically evil alpha leader type and fuck it all, he has fun with it. None of this emo moping stupidity. You gotta be a monster, be a monster and stop whining ... See also: Eric Northman in True Blood. I can't help it, I don't like Bill Compton even if his actor is hot in the tv series.

Ouch. Sorry. My brain just suggested The Lost Boys meet Eric and hang out in Fangtasia and... oh my lord, what would happen to Jessica?? Oh yeah, she'd be Wendy Who Stayed. And Pam would kick all their asses on a nightly basis. In pumps. Bill would uselessly brood and be scowly about how dreadfully difficult raising a teenage vampire is. Sookie would totally mean to console him but she'd get distracted by Billy Wirth...

Now I want to go watch Lost Boys for the zillionth time ever because when it comes right down to it, I'd be infinitely more likely to be wandering off into the dark with a David or an Eric than I would putting up with Edward Cullen's broody bedazzlement.

back from aerobics... don't have to work til this afternoon...

The 4th of July got basically rained out. Illinois got something around 4 inches of rain, and the picnic was called off til the 5th because the fairgrounds were like soup sooo.... that sucked. But I got to hang out with friends I hadn't really talked to for uh, a few years. And be reminded of stuff from when I was really little, which was entertaining.

Uncle, Grandpa, etc were well and healthy and we discussed businessy things and all that. My uncle is really into that new show Royal Pains... and Burn Notice. I shouldn't be surprised but I am anyway. I always just think of him watching sports and possibly lawyer shows.

then it was back home and straight back to work because BOTH of my employers are crazily short-staffed this week and we have a huge tournament this weekend at the club so omfg the cleaning. I'm just sort of glad we don't have to do actual dining room/restaurant things any more because that actually lessens the insanity by quite a lot.

I have one day off this week, which I'm devoting to working on my State Department app and stuff. And possibly checking out new phones because mine is nearing the point of being a total antique. Except I sort of had a shopping spree in Illinois and maaaybe I should wait a couple weeks to get a new phone... Then again, I haven't any idea when I'll have another day off. :/ It's amazing that 4 or 5 hour shifts can totally kill a day but yet the do manage. Plus I'm having lots of days where I work 5 hours one place and then 4 hours at the other. Good for the paycheck, bad for getting anything done.

I shouldn't complain. At least I have a job which is more than lots of people around here have... but omg. It's frustrating not to be able to get other stuff finished.

Lilies War 2009

So I spent ten whole awesome days at war!! Including my bday. :D

Of course, I mean SCA war, which is a new twist on the war concept for those of us who live in the modern world. Lilies War 2009 (website). 10 days of fighters baking in armor while bashing each other with swords, spears and other weaponry while the rest of us melt and start contemplating how to spend an entire day in the lake.

Midwestern weather, ever a fickle mistress, gave us a cold Friday, an epic downpour on Monday, and blistering heat afterward. Soggy Bottom Lilies as baronnemelisend termed it, which totally fits since the parking lot stayed closed for over a day after the downpours and there was a general soggy dampness that just refused to get out of anything.

As for my bday- I was foolish enough to let spikedearheart , Athena and Calypso plan things... They are never coming near my bachelorette party. I wouldn't survive. I ended up draped in the heavy chains of my year's sins asking pardon of my fellow men and ladies. The fact that the chains were candy necklaces and that each person was to remove a bead... well. I suppose the intention was nirvana or spreading a sugar-coma to the crowd.

Other than that, there was much drinking of the Woodchuck and flowing meads and Captain Morgan and that bit of devilry that is called Apple Pie. I got to see tons of friends, make new ones and meet... so. many. people. I did get to meet baronnemelisend one evening. Mostly I just remember she'd been called the Hottest Baroness in the Known World and it was fun to remind her of it.

Sucky bits? I rolled my foot during the ball so I was limping for a couple days because I couldn't just, you know, stay off of it and not walk around. And then I fell on it again, so that just made it worse... and then kept walking on it. Of course, I was only one of many with a wounded foot- sprained ankles and injured feet became quite the accessory of the war. Limping is totes fashionable. It was really bad after the battle where the rampaging horde of peasants turned into unkillable zombies- a shambling horde of plebes to be picked off by the chivalry except that the chivalry would become zombies when killinated... so there were piles of "bodies" and people sorta got stepped on...

Zombies were a strange theme too. So, it was really the Lilies of Limping Zombies too.

Oh, but there was dancing! I didn't get to as many Middle Eastern classes as I wanted but I learned a lot of court dances. I also learned I can tell I'm overheated when I can't remember how to walk a double (ie "take 3 steps forward")

And anyway, nothing too scandalous happened aside from the necklace antics... and several of us appearing onstage as Trojan whores... and maybe some incidents of skinny dipping.... I got to flirt outrageously and be flirted with outrageously, hang out with my friends, watch killer fireworks, cheer on amazing fighters, dance, help take down pavilions, learn about Sheep in Any Medium (helping kids learn a dance called New Bo Peep and entering it in the competition - who knew Little Bo Peep was probably a game of some sort??), be in a risquee play, and make tons of new SCAdian friends. What's not to adore?

Oh, and I got a couple new gowns, which is also important.

It's going to take a week to recover from though. There should be a 12-step program. I know zephyrofgod agrees with me on that one.

Aaand, then I got back on Sunday and got caught up on all the stuff going on in HomeTown. Some days the mind boggles about what my friends can manage to get up to when I'm gone for hardly even a week. O.o Fights at the club, Party Boy excommunicating people, boys being all weirdly territorial, Draco getting punched by a girl... Eesh. Oh and the country club is having it's own saga like All My Golfers style or something... But more on that later.

I would lovelovelove to, but I'm not sure how many of the players would... or if we should start over or what. And I'm still spending extra time with Trouble and co, which kills my actual online time... But YES. We should. Even if it's private or eency or... idk. We had fun, I'd like to play again. :) Maybe in a month or so? We'll have to get together and discuss.

For those who dont' know wth we're on about: A Gathering of Shadows was an online rpg based in A Song of Ice and Fire, which I modded for about a year. Somehow we got lucky and had some amazing damn players who were hilarious, intelligent, and frighteningly devious when it came to intrigues. Like, scary devious. I'm looking at you redhawk and evilwildlex . And fewer excuses to have outrageous historical clothing and jewelry. Oh, and we'd never really have reason to look up books on heraldry. We'd have fewer crazy parties and wouldn't ever find ourselves agonizing over inability to piva or confusions about which redaction of which dance goes to which tune. We wouldn't put savings plans into effect months ahead of time for something that can be construed as a camping trip. We wouldn't really get to watch guys in armor bashing each other in melee tourneys. We wouldn't have alternate personalities (well, not as many anyway... ).

Feel free to ask me questions too- just go to my previous entry. Or ask them here. Whichever. :)

omg it's Saturday night and I'm not going out. Actually I just got done at the club at 10, after bartending my first party since the summer before last. Tips weren't awesome but it wasn't a hardcore drinking crowd either. honestly I'm more dead than I should be. I forgot how much fun it is to try out drinks on people though. :)

Not. Alone. Dishes and soapy all the way through.

Oneroi - Created to invoke the ancient Greek deities of dreams. On the shores of the ocean, somewhere in the West, they dwell behind their gates of horn and ivory. Soporific, dark and unfathomable: a somnambular blend of deep lavender, white sandalwood, jasmine, bergamot and mugwort.
Oh. Oh wow. Very very sandalwoody but dries and fades out with a gorgeous faint floral-and-herby bit... last for a really long time. And smells like dreams should. Definitely leads to the gates of horn and ivory.

Tintagel -According to legend, the birthplace of King Arthur. The scent of a castle's great hall in the midst of joyous feasting. Spicy mulled wine flowing through the musky heat, warm leather and bright clash of armor, the damp branches of Cornish hawthorn, blackthorn, juniper, English elm and bayberry, and the magical tingle of dragon's blood resin.
Well it's definitely spiced wine at first- all I could smell was cinnamon and I think juniper at first... it evens out to a gorgeous sort of wine-and-warmth scent though, which I love. I think it's the bayberry and dragons blood but I could be wrong.

Cordelia - The essence of faith, love and devotion: lilac, lemon, green tea, wisteria, osmanthus, white cedar, and Chinese musk.
Still smells like overwhelming lilacs on me. However it smells lovely on my mother, who now refuses to let me have it back.

Venice - A complex, voluptuous scent that captures the robust beauty and of the Italian Renaissance: lemon, red currant, wisteria, red rose petals, heady jasmine, Florentine orris root, waterlily, red sandalwood, violet plum, and violet leaf.
Whoah, flowers. Alas, the roses have overrun the city when it gets to my skin. But it dies to a sort of exotic flower garden with a note lemon. Kind of a heavy scent on me but it fades out so prettily...

Bon Vivant - An effervescent blend of crystalline champagne notes and sweet strawberry.
Sweetness and light is what is smells like. It goes on with an undertone of strawberries but it's still a really sweet scent. I love it but it's making me want candy.

I'm telling myself that if I wear the overgown with a different style of underdres it can actually pretend to be vaguely period (invoking the 10foot rule here), and the chemise is, well, a chemise.
1. What was your very favorite part about the place you grew up? Least?
That's tough. I think I both love and hate the same thing: the smallness. We're all close in some way or another, even if I hate to admit it, and there comes a strange familiarity thing with being around the same people for years and years even if you don't call yourselves friends per se. And yet, there are no damn secrets. Everyone knows everything and that can get so old.
I love that when you need help, someone's going to have your back. It might not even be who you expected, but someone's going to be around for it. I hate that everyone's going to know everything about any troubles you have five minutes into them.

2. British television: Why is it just BETTER?
Because Britain is smaller and has less room for stupid people? And maybe idiot people in Britain don't watch tv as much, I have no idea. Maybe Britain pays its screenwriters better.

3. What do you most hope to accomplish this year?
Make it into the foreign service, or at least find some kind of real grownup job. I would also like to make my family stop giving me funny looks, like they're waiting for me to have some kind of melt down. I think getting a grown up job would help that though.

4. Username: Where did it come from?
I couldn't think of anything and midsummernightsdream was too long? That and Summer's Dream was a really yummy ice cream flavor. But it's worked out pretty well because my life is sometimes surreal enough to be a dream.

5. How do you think you've changed over the past year?
I think I'm a little more jaded, and a little more conscious of realities. I've finally graduated and got the pressure hitting me to be a real person, be a grown up.... and in the last months it's been the first time a lot of my friends and I have had to admit we aren't automatically going to survive any stupid thing we might do. I think that realization is very important. We'll see how I manage it all, I guess.

You can comment and I'll ask you five questions! I'm sorry, I forgot who asked me these. :(

I sort of like it, in spite of that. I smell like I just got a good scrub with old-fashioned soaps. It doesn't cling on me, though. Still, a really nice fresh scent and one I'd happily wear for daytime.

• Aureus True, perfect golden light, refined into an incomparably glorious scent.
This smells like a baked good of some sort, to me. I can't pinpoint it, but it does NOT like my skin. Putting it on me is terrible, but it's nice in the imp
-... Oh. .... Dear... this did not go well. I can tell this would smell delicious on someone else but it goes straight to some strange patchouli place on my skin and just... lingers there for far too long. Definitely not my scent, but after a while I see where the baked goods came from- it smells faintly like the really old-fashioned candy they have in amish stores and stuff.

• Nymphs of the North (Midsummer Muse perfumes, not bpal) These women live on Hyperboria, the land beyond the North Wind. It is said that no traveler shall reach this land by ship nor by land, and neither shall one find the wonderous road to the gathering place of the Hyperboreans. Perseus finds the land with the help of Hermes and is welcomed by a host of happy people who are always banqueting and joyous. They show him great kindness and welcome him to their feast, and the maidens of the North, dancing to flute and lyre, pause to get him the gifts he seeks to kill Medusa. These gifts were a) winged sandals enabling him to fly, b) a magic silver pouch that would adjust itself to the size of whatever it held, and c) a cap or helmet of darkness from Hades which made the wearer invisible.

Frosty North wind, pearlesque snowflakes, distant laughter carried on snow-filled drifts, silver platters of candied lemon tarts, lemon tea, and vanilla-sugared citrus fruits.
This is the one that smells VANILLAAAA with a hint of lemon. I can't stand it, but the one day I wore it, EVERY female I came across said I smelled AMAZING
-Wow, I second the VANILLAAAA. But the lemon shows up and now I'm smelling lemon meringue pie and I want to eat my wrist... This could be hormones talking though. Hmm. the VANILLAAA calms down quickly on me, though, and it's still meringue pie... nope still want to lick it. Definitely a good sign! btw- the lemon fades later and leaves me smelling like a cake, but I like it, just... not an every day scent. I definitely see where it might incite other girls to follow you around and try to lick your pulse points though.

• The Peach Tree (Midsummer Muse perfumes, not bpal) Dry white tea leaves, ripe golden peaches, late summer blooms, and a slightly-spiced humid, hazy summer evening.
This was a purchase I knew better than to get, but I got anyway. Peach is a scent/flavor that I'm convinced I love, even though I really really don't. This is a VERY peachy scent.
-millions of peaches, peaches for me! millions of peaches.... I usually am not fond of peach scented things because they usually don't smell like peaches to me, but this does... and it's a soft scent somehow. I think I conclude that I quite like it. It's a good scent to wear when I want to remember summer days raiding the peach orchard by grandpa's house. :)

*the small nonitalics is naeko 's review of the above.

• Maenad Orgiastic mayhem in the extreme: sweet strawberry and orange blossom distorted by carnation, black poppy and hibiscus.
this was a trade from zephyrofgod , on whom it smelled like old ladies, and she'd gotten it from a friend on whom it didn't work for other reasons (she smelled like a giant strawberry but not really a fun strawberry). On me it starts with a strangely stinging note with the strawberries and plays along, turning into wild strawberries with the hint of fires or incense somewhere in it. I really like it, and I think it is a perfect mood perfume for me.

• The Sportive Sun She who turns to love. Florentine iris, frankincense, violet, ylang ylang, amber, and orchid..
picked this one up on Ebay- it's a LE but I fell for the description, and I was not at all disappointed. It goes on heavily amber, but the frankincense adds some mystery and as it fades out it's no less lovely. I especially love the flowery notes that are girly without being opressive (read: roses).

• Queen Gertrude Imperial violet softened by wisteria and chrysanthemum, but edged with the regal iciness of delphinium.
Shiny! There is something very entrancing about this scent just in the bottle. I'm no good at identifying flowers really, but this scent makes me feel very dreamy. Putting it on pulls out the cool notes but the chyrsanthemum is what I think is trying to take over... luckily it evens out after a while and leaves a scent like a bouquet of flowers that stops just short of being too sweet. definitely one to apply sparingly.

• Boomslang Snake oil with cocoa, teakwood and rice milk.
My first thought when I sniffed the bottle was "Ewww." But putting it on it turns into cocoa and milk with the vague hint of the teak. Sort of smells like a chocolatini, honestly. Not bad, but I don't think it's something I'd ever order. It's interesting to smell like chocolate though, I gotta say.
Mag Mell - The Plane of Joy, eternal reward for a lifetime of valor and glory. A place of eternal youth and beauty, strength and honor, music and revelry. The warmth of amber, the puissance of white ginger and the clarity of verbena, with fresh green grass, lush sage and cleansing droplets of summer rain.
-Smells amazing on me. No, really. It's the... I think amber and verbena and then... the rain scent thing going on... wow. I'll be over here having scented day dreams...

Cordelia - The essence of faith, love and devotion: lilac, lemon, green tea, wisteria, osmanthus, white cedar, and Chinese musk.
-Starts off smelling like I rolled in a lilac bush, but calms down after a bit... Smells nice and... girly. Really girly. I think it's the wisteria. I smell like a Southern plantation or something now... I like it though.

Xiuhtecuhtli: Patron of the Aztec pantheon, he is the personification of light within darkness, warmth in the cold, and life in, and after, death. He is a creative and destructive God of Fire and Light, and is appeased only by sacrifice, trial, and the slaughter of his people’s enemies. Copal, plumeria and sweet orange and the smoke of South American incense and crushed jungle blooms.
- Smells like incense and boy when I put it on. Like a nicer less obnoxious Axe body spray. :/ I like, but not sure if I like it on me. Maybe on someone else.

Eve - The spirit of temptation, the essence of lost innocence. Apple blossom, rose, ylang ylang and golden honey.
-I have to beware of rose scents. Something about my chemistry brings all the roses to the yard and I smell like I've been dipped in rose oil, took a rose bath, rolled in a rose-strewn bed and washed up with rose water. There is the vaguest hint of ylang ylang somewhere but I'm sad because where are the apples? Definitely not for me. I do not like rose perfume.

Ultraviolet: Electrifying, mechanized and chilly -- the scent of crushed blooms strewn on cold metal. Lush violet and neroli spiked hard with eucalyptus and a sliver of mint.
- I get WAAAY too much eucalyptus from this one. Hmm, calms down though, and the violet and neroli get a chance to appear. Nice, not sure it's my thing though.

The Haunted Palace: The moment before the ruin, frozen. The scent of captured glory, of glowing pearls and rubies, of golden sunlit joy and regal grandeur: red rose, Tunisian amber, blood orange, toasted vanilla, heliotrope, gardenia and red musk.
- OM NOM NOM. I want to roll in this and possibly lick myself, I'm not sure... I don't think it's polite to go around sniffing your own wrist but I want to... Amber orange gardenia with a soft waft of vanilla are what show up on me, and oops there's the gardenia... red musk too maybe? I don't know. It's all yumminess. Why is this only a Limited Edition? I want more of it already. :( No one will get this one or Mag Mell away from me.

The Sportive Sun: She who turns to love. Florentine iris, frankincense, violet, ylang ylang, amber, and orchid..
- Currently en route to me. And better get here quuick, dammit. I have an addiction to feed.

For those of you wonder what in the heck I'm sniffing, I give you: Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab, perveyors of awesome perfume oils.

*Perfume description things are ganked from the website, btw.
Journey to the Center of the Earth: Brendan Frasier goes all Jules Verne on your ass, and sleeps with a girl who looks Hollywood-17 (which means she looks 20-something in real life but on celluloid is what your are conditioned to think of as a teenager). Dinosaurs, pointless cute kid-pets and moody-13-year-old-boy also happen. And yet it really isn't all that bad. It's even classifiable as pretty good if you are comparing it to The Mummy 3.

Fanny: In which Gigi marries Gaston's father-person. No, I'm really not kidding. Leslie Caron gets pregnant by her idiot boyfriend who runs off to <strike>chase mermaids</strike> the sea for a life of <strike>sex</strike> adventures. The older, wealthy widower wants to marry her anyway and isn't upset that the kid won't be his because he wants a kid and hey, she's going to have one. And then idiot boyfriend shows up again, but by this point 5 Academy Awards or not, Summer had lost all interest and was more engaged in reading a Cadfael book. Brother Cadfael by the way, is hot. Something dramatic happened in the movie and then Old Wealthy Guy died and Not-Gigi cried and the music was worse than the plotline, but Hugh Beringar was sexying up Medieval England, so who cares?

Sense and Sensibility (BBC- 2008- Marianne is totally played by younger, cuter Kate Winslet 2.0 and Col Brandon is a poor man's Liam Neeson, and Margaret is still the Dashwood sister who brings all the AWESOME. She threatens to poison Fanny and I fell permanently into the Margaret Dashwood Fan Club, because if ever a Jane Austen character could be improved with a liberal dose of arsenic it's their sister-in-law. Well, Anne Elliot probably could too, but it would most likely backfire and make her more insipidly boring. I hate Persuasion so much... Uh, anyway.

The Netflix sleeve calls this adaptation "more sensual" than usual and omg did they understate things. When you kick off with Willoughby getting some chick's cothes off, you know it's gonna be fun. Plus? There's totally a duel. This would only be better if Wills shagged Marianne and then was eaten by rampaging zombies while Col Brandon and Edward shot the ever-loving fuck out of Paris, and Margaret served her sister-in-law and the entire Ferris family (minus Edward) piosoned tea. Of course, Mrs Ferris actually a witch and would curse Margaret to eternal life and thirst and thereby change her into a vampire....
I kid. Actually I really, really liked this. But I still want to see that Pride & Prejudice with zombies movie...

The Last King (2004) - Charles II fucking rocked and (apparently) rocked at fucking. With everyone. There were probably not many virgins around the Restoration court is what I'm saying. So, Charles was awesome and kingly and made of sheer, unbearably brilliant win. And then came James II, the useless brother, who fucked it all up and now we have our current royals because James II was that damn sucky. It's a pretty, pretty movie with pretty people and lots of shiny, and it ends when Charles does because no one wants to hear about James and even Charles knew James was going to suck because James was dropped on his head as a child. Rufus Sewell is Charles II, which I didn't go in for at first, but after hearing the commentary on A Knight's Tale about his parties, I could appreciate the casting. Also? Rufus Sewell is oddly hot and totally works those wonky Restoration outfits.

The Gay Divorcee (1934)- Ginger Rogers is tired of being married to an idiot, so her awesome busybody and serially-married aunt hires a professional co-respondent to pose as Ginger's lover (on some quirk of British 1930s law or something? Idk, it doesn't matter. We are not here for plot ppl). She meets Guy Holden (most heroic name ever, right? aka Fred Astaire), and thinks he's the new fake boytoy. And he's been stalking her for weeks anyway because he ran into her at the train station and was bowled over by the awesomeness of Ginger Rogers, which is totes understandable. But he really really likes her and she thinks he's the fake lover person and he is so confused! Oh noes! And she's married! Horrors! But wait! Husband is awful! Hooray! And we can DANCE! THE CONTINENTAL!
Oh, and there's also dance number called... wait for it... LET'S KNOCK KNEES. ... And our grandparents call our songs suggestive? O.o This is a kick ass movie that's also really funny and waaay more risquee than it or 1934 Hollywood wants you to know.

The Thief of Baghdad (1940)- WOW. These special effect had to cost a damn fortune (or possibly... six fortunes) in 1940land. Don't watch this if you think Disney's Aladdin is original and awesome because, uh, Disney? YOU CHEATED. They cribbed a lot from this movie. It's still a pretty sweet little movie, with evil sorcerors and bloody-minded genies, part-time animal sidekicks named Abu (granted, this one is a human that's a dog for a while) and pretty princesses, toy-obsessed short sultans, and giant mutant spiders in ancient temples. If you want some old-time fairytale fantasy, this is definitely a movie to go for.

Monthly Info - track your periods and get email reminders so you won't get surprised.

XD

This may actually be an incredibly quiet Saturday night. Bff, a bottle of rum, Lady Gaga and some movie I've never heard of with Hugh Jackman and Ewan McGregor called Deception. S1 of The Tudors and the new Sense and Sensibility are in reserve.

... and now the stereo is playing My Humps. Damn, is this the Poppy Drunk Sex CD?? I'm flashing back to the Dark&Dirty Bar.

Spent part of today excavating the underbed in the guest room and located part of grandma's costume jewelry collection. Daaamn, 1935-1990 in one box is amusing. Found some stuff that is totes appropriate for renaissance revelry though. But I wonder where the rest is at... there were two big boxes I remember. The sort that are big and open with folding layers and layers. <.< No, addiction to shiny things is not at all hereditary. cough.

I found her 1950s formals too- the ones that fit me. The Civil Service will take me with our without a degree and I'm awesome and therefore that shouldn't worry me... Ok so I'll freak out about it again later. But right now! SCA WEEKEND!

I have cute 12th century clothing too! XD Mostly because my unactivated secondary persona is totally the daughter of a Crusader knight or something from southern France, circa 1170ish. That or she has like, idk, grown up in Jerusalem in the Crusader kingdom. Because any kingdom with a leper king is kind of awesome like that... Hai, I am a history fangirl. No, I kid. I really do want a second persona who is right around the same time and places as Eleanor of Aquitaine though. Why? Because Eleanor of Aquitaine kicks ass.

Is it really bad that I want garb in the colors of House Martell? Because I do. And no comments from you, spikedearheart , cause you are getting Lannister garb and you know it. I'm also trying really hard not to notice that the gown I just got for Lilies is actually House Arryn's colors. <.<

Anyway, I'm going to be at Marshal! With friends! In garb! Spontaneous dancing! Tournament! Feast! Crazyness all around! XD
So we've got a new channel that showed up on our satellite... The Chiller Channel! Ooooh, spppoooooky!
I've been ignoring it mostly because horror tv isn't my thing but omg! They started showing Kindred: The Embraced a while ago and I got sort of addicted but I won't admit it.

Then, the other day I was boredly scrolling through and saw the BEST THING EVAR. THEY HAVE DARK SHADOWS. Y'all! DARK M*therF*ckin SHADOWS.

If you don't know what DARK SHADOWS is, you're very sad.

It was the original gothic soap opera. They had it all: Creeeeeeeeeeepy old and perpetually fog-surrounded New England mansion, orphaned governess looking for a faaaaaaaaamily, family fortune, family curses, family secrets, vampires!, werewolves, murder mysteries!, ghostly kids, psychic bar maids! reincarnated lost loves, curing vampirism with sciiiiiiiience!, parallel universes, parallel timelines!, bitter ex-girlfriends, witches!, horrendous 60's special effects complete with cardboard bats on wires and orange paper pretending it was candle flames...

Chiller doesn't have the original series, tho. They have even better! THE 1991 remake!!! The one I looooooooooooooved as passionately as other 7-year-olds loved My Little Pony. It only lasted one single solitary season, but my little self learned in that one season that vampires are the coolest, broodiest things evar; psychic barmaids are the best; and that if my parents died it would be ok because I could go be a governess and spend my nights being <strike>seduced</strike> menaced by a broooooody toooooortured vampiiiiiiiiiiiire with what even a 7-year-old could tell you were some awesome cheekbones.

See, Dark Shadows is the saga of the Collins family and the... er, the dark shadows that haunt them. Specifically the vampire that turns up every so often as a "cousin from England." The vampire being Barnabas Collins who was turned into a vampire in 1790. Well, it's either that or he's been chained in a coffin in a tomb or possibly in the basement of the old(er) house that predates the stately mansion that is Collinwood where the family lives. So they had a vampire in the basement for a couple hundred years. It happens, right?

But all this is like coinciding with the arrival of the gorgeous brunette with the traaaaagic orphan-backstory: Victoria Winters. She's going to be governess to the Spawn of Satan (not litterally... at leat, uh, the writers hadn't gotten to it yet anyway) that is little David Collins. His father is an ass, but he's the one running the Collins family business empire or something. David has an imaginary friend named Sarah who is more incorporeal than imaginary.

Anyway, so Barnes turns up with a not-as-pretty-as-Vicky scientist named Julia who can totally cure his terrible curse. But woe! Barnes sees Vicky and swoons cause zomg! SHE'S THE REINCARNATION OF HIS ONE TWUUUUE LOVE!!!!!!!!! ZOMG! And she probably has an outrageous flavor too, but she sure as hell doesn't smell like freesia. He doesn't want to eat her, he wants to glom her and lick her and not at all have sex with her because that would be ungentlemanly. ... But y'know, some slight ravishing might be ok what with modern girls having altered expectations. Unfortunately he would lose track of his thought somewhere in there and accidentally nom on her. Which would make him feel even more angsty. Since he might have accidentally killed her the last time around... And really, killing your One Twue Wuv once is quite enough for any vampire.

Now enter jealousy! ghostly antics! vampirism cures! demons! witches! psychic barmaids! murder mysteries! AND TIME TRAVEL!!!

Between Dark Shadows, Lady Lovely Locks, Robin Hood, She-Ra and Jem and the Holograms... possibly you can see exactly how I turned out this way. ...

My asthma has been INSANE the last few days. I wound up taking 4 nebulizer treatments to survive on Saturday and I've been taking 1-3 every day since Friday. Today I've only had one... so I'm doing good. I haven't slept since Friday really. 2-4 hour naps.

But thank you Chiller Channel, cause Saturday whilst I was gasping like a fish, I could be curled up with my cuddly li'l nebulizer whilst watching a marathon of the entire 1991 season. The fashions! The brooding! The angst! The looooooooooove! The fangus interruptus! Ben Cross's cheekbones! Hilariously bad "1790" costumes that were both 1810 and 1770 all at once. Altho I made up an excuse that Josette had only just been kicked out of Versailles by a raging mob and she was secretly besties with Marie Antoinette and they had had tea and orgies in the Petite Trianon and they'd talked about this new high waisted look with simple lines Marie was wanting to try...

Anyway, it was awesome. I encourage you to find and watch this series for the sheer nummy cheese. True Blood kicks ass, but for an angsty emopire, gimme Barnabas any day. Screw Bill Compton, and to the depths of hell with Mssr Sparklepire Edward. Dark Shadows is a zillion times more fun than Twilight could ever possibly be.

I want to own Dark Shadows and True Blood and watch them back-to-back. Moonlight too. We could team up Nick St John, Barnabas Collins and Bill Compton and together they would fight injustices. WITH MIGHTY ANGST.

Writer's Block: Wardrobe Malfunction

As many clothes as I have, you'd think I'd have more tales of wardrobe malfunctions...

Well, ok, there's one... But I was not alone... which I'm not sure is better, honestly...

The whole cheerleading squad was running late and changed in record time to dash out to the field. We were cheering away, happy little cheerleaders in our happy little bouncy world... until the mom of one of the other girls came running up and told Candy to stop doing kicks... she was wearing white undies with a heart print instead of our black spankies. Lexi was wearing blue. By some luck, I was wearing black briefs, so no one really commented but... yeah.

Another one:
My mom got me a pair of South Pole jeans that were really cute when I put them on. I was running late so I just left them on and ran to work... about half an hour later, the jeans were now a little loose. Loose turned to baggy. Baggy turned to voluminous... I spent the day at work holding up my pants. Ugh. I promptly went home, tossed the jeans in the rag pile and announced that I will not be wearing that brand again. EVER.

Other than that, it's your average misadventures: bra straps showing, a visible pantyline, spending half a day at a church function with a slip showing in the back, etc.
Freebie food yay! Honestly, this job is the one to get if you're ever afraid of going hungry. Pay is kind of crap but omg there's fooooood.

I still think it's a bad sign when the waiters recognize me and can guess the orders... But ah well. Hanging out with the bosses was actually kind of awesome. There's a huge generation gap I got to say- they both kept asking me if I was going out and what we'd do. Neither one of them ever got to just go out with friends and hang out with a drink and gossip at the bar or a restaurant... when they were my age they were already married and maybe had kids.... strange to think about that.

Anyway, I met up with Trouble and Juliet at the Restaurant Bar, where it was two-for-one night. Oh yeah... and the bartender knows me there too. Eesh. then again, she bartended at my 21st and presided over J's 21st too... possibly that's enough to make me memorable.

Went to The Only Real Bar In Town after that and I found myself taking a terrifying shot of god knows what with Juliet... and the bartender was not well-trained but eh, it was a tuesday night... And then I was somehow playing pool with a group of guys who were much older (like, old enough to be Summer's dad and grandfather), and the dad-aged-one's son? We didn't buy that entirely. The dad-age one had on Abercrombie. And an earring. And didn't look entirely stupid. .... Possibly I was more drunk than I thought. Or he was not as old as he claimed. Something.

I totally sucked at pool. It's been like 2 years tho... or... omg, longer than that. Not since I broke up with Galen! O.o Wow. All I could think of during the game was how Galen's bro-in-law taught me and the fact I was decentish and he'd so be disappointed with my performance.

Btw, telling people in HomeTown that one is a Spanish major gets lots of funny looks. "So you'll like, work in a factory as a translator or something?" Not even teaching comes up in their brains first. lol

Anyway it was fun. And then Drunken Dramedies erupted in the other half of the bar, and it was closing time, and Trouble and I walked to her house and I called mom to come get me. Driving was not an option and Trouble had to somehow drag herself to school today and teach. Poor girl...

Trouble's doing... ok, I think. I hate that I couldn't get out of finals but she had Juliet with her down at the Lake last week, so she wasn't locked in a hotel.

I talked to Kitty too, after I got home. Looks like life might actually get a little less psycho for her, which is a relief.

This morning, my stepdad was unamused with my calling the house at midnight but he apologized since as a former cop he's seen the accidents tha happen when you don't call for a ride. I was really worried for Juliet actually because she insisted on driving...

I'm sorry this entry isn't entirely coherent. I have had two nebulizer treatments today. O_o What the hell, lungs? What. The. Hell?

... I think I might have a date with Stripes? .... So, there's that too.

And I want to celebrate my bday with Kitty and co at Lilies anyway.

Dad forgot I was graduating. O_o

Apparently no one was allowed to touch at graduation because we might all get the swine flu from it. And our president and staff thought it was ridiculous but admitted publically that it would be dreadful pr to have anyone catch it. Or think they caught it. But it was still stupid, in their opinion so plz could the bearcats stop whining?

A couple of my besties didn't graduate thanks to catalogue mess-ups or unexpectedly bad grades. :X I feel bad because if it hadn't been for flunking that class last spring (the nightmare one where the teacher never said anything until after the final) I would likely have graduated a year ago... and I really should have graduated in fall anyway but I felt like taking an independent study was not going to help my language skills that much.

I miss CollegeTown already. I hope this stops quickly or I'll be convincing myself that grad school is totes an option and should be attempted. Let us all hope that Summer makes it through the Civil Service stuff or she'll so be a grad schooler FOREVER.

Rural Arkansas. They'd banish me there.

At least last night kind of rocked. Went to Dark&Dirty, gave up because no one was there. Hit the Beer Garden but it was too packed to move. Called Brutus and he was chilling in the Grad Student-Type Bar, so we headed there. Then I ended up flirting with a boy with a Thundercats shirt on. He was a history major too. Oh yeah. I'm such a sucker for that combo. Plus? Pretty eyes. And he was conversant in historical military tactics. Eesh.

Other than that, I'm still in recovery. I drank waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much last night. Even for me. O.o But then, hey, it was graduation. Gotta do it right. At least I didn't have to walk across the stage like Kitty did. They don't believe evolution. Don't they have that museum, with the dinosaurs and humans being all happy together...? I shouldn't be allowed near my credit cards when I'm having a horrid time. But oh well. It will be blue and silver and pretty and custom made. Kitty's gown is by the same lady- her stuff is gorgeous, it's not outrageously expensive and she's nice, works with you, and puts up with ludicrous questions. I've never ordered a custom outfit before, but pandaemonaeum I was so thinking about all the silliness you must put up with and pictured you rolling your eyes a couple times...
